Just posted this to rec.motorcycles, but since it *was* on the
KLR....
Yesterday was a fine day with a nice long ride that included a
long stretch of highway 4 in California. A nice fast section of
two lane (one in either direction).
In a section where my lane has a nice clean/safe shoulder, I see
a car making a pass. He is passing a group of cars and it is
very quickly obvious that he is not going to finish before he and
I have to pass each other. Moving over in my lane is enough to
make a safe pass, don't really even need the shoulder. So this
is clearly "safe" in regard to the needed space for a good pass,
but after the second time this happens within about two miles of
riding, I really must wonder how common this is.
A little later on the shoulder is no longer there and I find
myself looking very carfully at cars ahead to make sure that they
are going in my direction and not another idiot coming right
toward me.
So, do you folk often find yourselves facing a car driving right
toward you in your own lane?

any 2004 klr650's released?
Just wondering if anyone has seen an '04 KLR650 at a dealer. My
dealer was expecting a shipment but nothing has arrived yet.

cars coming at you head on?
One tiny up side to NJ is that people here aren't inclined to pass
nearly as often as they do down south or out west from what I've seen
driving around the country. It's fairly rare that people
pass on the local two lane roads here oddly enough. I think it comes
from the overzealous cops that will pretty much ticket you if you go
over the speed limit to overtake. When they do pass here
though.... sheesh look out, most people can't do it well at all up
here they take way too long and judge poorly.
