Stu, What are your impressions of the TKC for cornering, & noise on road, say....compared to the D606, and/or the stock K750? My D606's have done a fine job, & worn well, but are pretty shot now. Thinking somethin alittle less aggressive, but still dirt worthy. Looking at everything, have it narrowed down to the TKC, IRC GP110, or Sahara 3. All best. They seem to be a real nice 50/50 tire. Less noise and WAY better manners on the street thatn the K270, but still a lot nicer in the dirt than the stockers. I think they're a really good product. My first impression was that it was wearing fast, but once I factor in 2300+ miles in a week, maybe I was wrong... My D606 is on the back of my XR650R, and the reason I went with that is because that bike would fry a K270 down to cords in under 100 miles. The D606 is way too agressive for any kind of distance on the street, I reckon. I think the Metzelers are a fortune, as well as being kinda street oriented. I have never run them or the IRCs. Thanks Stu, was leaning in that direction...sometimes ya just need someone to push you over the edge. The Euro folks seem to like em alot too, from what I've read. Ran across some TKC threads when looking (at loosely translated reviews/impressions) for more first hand info on the Saharas. Opinions vary Wildly on Sahara 3. Guess they come stock on the Dakar...majority seem to not like em...Alot. Still, some have written highly of them. The IRC's...tagged along with Swampy last year as he charted the GS Adventure tour route. Watched his lines, & he seemed just at home wheather on asphalt, in the sand of Ocala, or in brake light deep water crossings we found. Looks like safe choice as 50/50. Tread pattern of the TKC's looks dual-functional, they seem to wear well, & don't know anyone here that has tried them on a KLR yet, so.....Going to give them a shot. All best. There is a review of TKC 80's in last month's "Rider" magazine, from some dude who ran them on his KLR... That pushed me over the edge.. Plus, I do whatever anyone on the list suggests. Hi Stu, I mounted a TKC 80 130/80x17 on the rear of my 640 LC4 (w/modified smaller rear rim, 18" is stock) . The tire started out at 11 mm tread depth in the center when new and within 650 miles (2 days hard Colorado DS use) had only 5.5 mm tread depth. Since I won't wear them to bald I figure my 50 HP KTM eats rear TKCs in 1000 or less miles! Great feeling tire everywhere though. Rear Gripsters will give me 2500 on the KTM and 3500 on the KLR. Again I do not wear them to bald, prefering to take them off at about 3 mm tread depth. 606s do wear like iron and give about 1200 miles on the LC4 but feel tentative on the road in the twisties. btw I think I am going to get my foot x-rayed manana.
