surprised at klrs off road ability, now weight of bike

Hey, I did say "The XR600R was a lot better in the dirt" :) I just assumed that the KLR would Really suck off road. It was better than what I expected. Here's my story: I ditched the XR in favor of a WR426 (street legal) because the XR600R w/baja kit was too heavy for me. I got the KLR for around town. I just weighed both the XR600R and 1995 KLR 650. I used a digital crane scale suspended from the rafters in my garage. Bikes were hung. 1997 XR600R w/baja designs kit, full tank of gas, 325 lbs 1995 KLR 650, stock, full tank of gas, 422 lbs I guess you can do some things to improve the KLRs suspension for off road use, but how can you get it loose 100 lbs? Anybody else weigh their bikes? Actual wet weight, the estimated dry weight provided by the manufacturers are usually very optimistic. Does 422 lbs sound right, I didn't think it weighed that much! I'm guessing that Kawasaki was very optimistic with this bike's weight. That sounds just a tad on the heavy side, even if "dry weight' means, no gas, no oil, no coolant, no fork oil, no shock oil, no air in tires and no battery. Kawasaki lists the dry weight of the KLR650 at 337lbs. It's dry weight is probably closer to 360Lbs. Mark

How long is the rear spring when the shock is at full compression? Full rebound? Anyone have a unit handy to measure? Thx, RM
