electrical blues...[nklr]

Hi Folks!
It's me again, the guy without the KLR, but who values
the list's information in general regarding to Dual
Sports ;o)
I wonder if someone here might be able to highlight
some problems/solutions to electrical(I think)
problems on a Honda XL600R (trying to imitate a KLR!
;o) )?? If so, here are some details/problems:
My Honda XL600R that just suddenly refused to start.
No warnings
(except another time, with same simptoms) whatsoever.
I replaced the coil as I thought that might be the
reason. The bike cranks
over, but it almost seems as if there is no "fire". I
can smell unburned
fuel at the exhaust(still recovering, hehe).... The
battery is all charged up with
my spanking new Optimate III. The previous time this
happened, the AA-guy
came out(not all too brilliant, but after 'pulling'
some cables while the
tank was off, he managed to start it with his 'starter
pack'), the bike started and I got home. It died on me
a few times,
but I managed to start it again. When I got home I
took the carb off and
tried to clean it(man, this was the most difficult
carb I had to take off
*any* vehicle in my life!!). It managed to start again
after that...
I will try and get hold of a inline spark plug
tester-majiggy and pull the
carbs again sometime this week... But does anyone have
any ideas what else
might be the problem (I don't really use this bike
off-raod at the moment if it helps). And Im not such a
good backyard mechanic yet ;o)
I appreciate any advice that you guys might be able to
help with.
Cheers!
