As temporary measure most Auto Supply Co. have a rubber plug that expands by
means of an adjusting screw after you insert it into the oil drain hole.
Good luck

The drain plug uses a 12mm X 1.5 thread. Don't feel bad, you are not the
only one that has done this.

Did something stupid! Stripped the threads in oil drain - plug is OK.
Does anyone know of a self-tapping replacement or has anyone had this
challenge. Appreciate any input. 2002 KLR 650. Thanks....

When in doubt, give Fred a call at Arrowhead. I bet he can fix you
up... I know he has the magnetic plugs...

You'll need to helicoil the area the drain bolt fits into. I had a
mechanic due it for me once. In the meantime if there are partial
threads grabbing the bolt, some RTV silicon goop should get you back
together.

Good morning.
Your local auto parts store will have an emergency rubber like plug that
expands into the oil drain hole. I had one in a MG 1100 for years. I
was just to lazy to pull the pan. You can still drain your oil.

bead on new k270s won't seat. (bead expander, tkc-80)

Gino,
What is a "bead expander"?
What tire lubricant do you suggest for getting difficult beads to
set?
I had a real bear of a time getting the bead of my rear TKC-80 to
seat. I ended up with a nylon strap around the circumference, lots
of Silkolene(TM) lube, and 86 psi. There has to be a better way. I
am also going to look for a better tire bead lubricant than the
Silkolene, as it dries out too fast.

I have had trouble with two K270s until I just applied plenty of lube
and used a bead expander. This also seems to be a common issue with
TKC80s.
