I just have to let all the posters know that I got the bike up and
running again. It turned out to be the CDI. Thanks to all the
listers who helped out. You know who you are. Anyway I also have to
tip my helmet to Wayne Deason for the part. He got it to me post
hast and for what I thought was a reasonable price. Some of you may
remember his post a while back about an '01 model he was parting
out. The transaction was one of the best I've been party too. Thanks
Wayne!
Hey Julie did you get your bike back from the dealer yet. Sorry if
you already posted it I've gotten behind again.

Joe,
No, I'm still waiting "impatiently" now. I guess the dealer has gotten and
the parts but the fork boots. I had put black Daystar boots on, so the
dealer ordered some oem boots that are on the 2003 model. They still hasn't
received them. So the guy now has ordered me some "Daystar boots". Maybe
I'll get it back next week?
Julie
PS Thanks for asking.

The Daystars are vastly superior to the Kawasaki junk they put on the
new bikes. No comparison. Take them happily.

Thanks Kawboy! I would have had no idea where to start if I had not read a post from long in the archives. Some other poy schmo did the same thing I did and fried his CDI. Thank goodness for the archives, I didn't get many replies on my original post.

Joe,
Glad to hear the bike is running. I've only dealt with a bad CDI once and it was a pain in the arse. It was my GS1150 and I wound up getting the point plate from an old GS1100 and a Dyna electronic ignition replacement for the old GS points and saved like a $150 in the bargain. In my case the CDI caused a lot of backfiring, harsh enough it blew out a hole in the side of a V&H can - give V&H credit, I explained how it happened and they said they didn't care because they felt their exhaust should not have failed that way and replaced the can.

That's probably because you didn't ask the right question. Next time, try
something like, "Should I carry a Glock 9mm or a Smith & Wesson .357 when I
go out riding on posted land with my best friend, who's a homosexual?"
That will get you some replies, I bet. (Grinning)

klr lifts on sale at kragens auto parts $59.99

Newsflash! In today's Sunday paper, the same exact lift a lot of
listers, including myself, use for KLRs (Larin Motorcycle / ATV lift)
is listed on sale at Kragen's for $59.99.
This concludes my good deed for the day, now I'm off to burglarize
the old folks' home.
CA Stu
PS Not really, I'm going to change out the clutch cover gasket on my
KLR. I reused the gasket when I changed the clutch, and it is farting
oil right below the water pump...
Then it's up to Golden Acres >:-)
