OK .. it is noisy, but now it is way broken. Looks like the baffle vibrated the outer aluminum housing in two pieces where the baffle goes into the pipe. It is blown out all a round. It caused a stress tear the looks like I was tearing off the top of a beer can. Ever here of such a thing? 'Course, it melted the side cover a bit, too Worse, got to buy a new after market pipe .... just got rid of the SuperCrap ..... now the Cobra is snake bit. PauL

Yup Yup Yup... got one hanging on the wall in garage.. Pretty much all the same as you pointed out... Except.. mine is all patched up and welded inside. Way to loud for me, had to make a rear hanger bracket. It will never go back on my bike. Got a metal bash plate ya wanna trade ? Dooden Can send digital pics along if ya want them --- In DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "PauL - yes the L is upper case" wrote:

Hi, I had the chance to TEST RIDE a Dakar @ the BMW dealership b-4 I bought my KLR. Try doing THAT at the local Kawi-Barn! I thought that it was a smooth running, well crafted bike. I liked it very much, but up here it's either street OR dirt (not a lot of dirt roads etc.) and I just couldn't wrap my mind arond a $9k dirt bike that weighed as much as my SV 650. Also, having to have parts shipped from Germany was an issue, as dirt bike parts break. The Dakar felt lower and more centered though, and in general, better put together. If I were looking for a poser bike (they DO look GREAT) or if money was no object, or if I had dirt skilz, or if there were a lot of dirt roads/open terain arround here, I might have gotten the Dakar. I got a great deal on a "well used" KLR that I don't mind bashing up and dropping in the woods and muck of New England. Both are great on the street, offering alot of turning leverage and a nice high SUV-like view of the road. The BMW sounds nicer. Both are intimidating to cagers, way more so than any sport bike, the KLR probably more than the Dakar. hope this helps Ken kveader@e... Haverhill MA 2k1 GSXR-750 FS or TRADE 93 KLR 650

Gone through two of them this way. Your options are: 1) take it back to where you got it, see if they'll help you send it back to Cobra for a new one. 2) contact Cobra, they'll exchange it for a new one with the return. 3) get a piece of steel exhaust pipe (think it's 3.5" dia.) and make a new outer housing, weld all pieces together (vibration elimination) except the packing holder - use screws. 4) go back to stock muffler 5) go with a JC Whitney car muffler like Z Swede DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com, "PauL - yes the L is upper case" wrote:
