I recently did a complete overhaul on a '91 KLR650 dual sport into a
street fighter. Besides completely striping it down and repainting
the frame, engine, and bodywork (semigloss black); I freshened the
top end and used the best aftermarket components I could find.
Among the features are:
Pirelli ST "Scorpion" tire (very good 90%street, 10%dirt)
Ferodo ductile iron front rotor
Ferodo FP carbon sintered pads
Goodridge kevlar front brake line and bleeder bolt
progressive fork springs
new fork seals
new clutch cable
new windscreen
new handguards
Big Gun Exhaust (thermal coated, shiny, and LOUD AS HELL)
K&N filter
desnorkled air box
K&N/DynoJet jet kit
billet steel replacement balancer chain "doohickey" and spring
new chain with less than 300 miles
new front and rear sprockets (+1 on the back)
stainless steel hex head frame, controls, and engine bolt kits
subframe bolts replaced with higher grade bolts
progressive adjustable rear shock
Travelcade gel seat
SV650 front and rear turn signals.
Also comes with a set of Bridgestone TW21 knobbies of you want to go
play in the dirt, a lifetimes supply of oil filters (10 I think), and
both factory service manuals.
As you can see, I've basically done just about everything you can do
to a KLR to improve it. It was alot of fun to put together and is
hoot as a commuter bike/hooligan that can go anywhere, but its a bit
more of a handful than I want (I created a monster)! and I've found
that dual sports just aren't my thing.
I put over $3,000 into it and would like to get at least $2,800 for
it OR trade for a fairly low mile, near stock Blue SVS + $$$. Contact
me and we can swap pics and make a deal.
