approaching I don't believe that using studs is approved for on-road use anywhere. I remember putting a lot of studs in tires back in the 70's, but I believe that they are not legal anymore. That being said, why worry about having DOT approved tires? Just stud up whatever you want and have a ball!! MNRon

It's certainly legal to run studded tires on a cage, just about everywhere there's any significant amount of snow every winter (and many places where there isn't). Usually the law prohibits running studded tires except between October 15 and May 15 (later in some mountain states). Do you know of some specific regulation prohibiting studded tires on bikes, or did you mean that you thought they were illegal on any motor vehicle?

Studs have long since been outlawed in MN because of the damage they do to the road surface.
