newbie advise, exhaust carb engine mods

Post by Richard Hayward » Mon Sep 23, 2002 8:04 am

I for one and other a couple other KLR riders who rode my bike notice that my engine mods yielded a noticeable difference in power, not necessarily that big a difference for slow trail riding, but quite a bit of difference in the sand or on the highway. Even a couple of XRL riders noticed on a recent trip. However the sacrifice came at fuel economy. Between 35 -45 on how you use the throttle. I would do my engine mods again, and they are as follows, Airbox opened screen removed, carb rejetted, drilled and properly adjusted (including idle adjust screw) and tuned adjustable needle, UNI foam filter, and Laser pro exhaust. The only thing I would have done different is get the protective gear for the bike first then do the engine mods. Richard Hayward A7 St. Peters Missouri

Rain, fog, drizzle. Rinse. Repeat. Never made it to Deals Gap. :| Started up near the NC/VA border and rode south. Made it as far south as Asheville and then decided we'd seen enough fog, rain and white cloudy overlooks for the weekend. :) Most fun was driving through pea soup fog in the dark trying to get to Boone and wondering if that was a deer, wild turkey or bear on the side of the road :) Soon as I get some pictures I'll post a link. Must have been a Gold Wing rally or something - saw LOTS of Gold Wings around Asheville. Had more people on Harleys wave back vs. the Gold Wings. You'd think at least the old lady riding on the back could wave. Nope. Saw more Harley's in trucks & trailers than actually on the road. Saw one truck hauling a "Harley Hauler" which looked like it must cost more than the bike itself. Saw an FZ1 which is now on my Xmas wish list. Damn my wife though for filtering my mail to Santa! Everywhere we stopped the KLR got positive comments. :) jim
