Yesterday evening I had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Carl for about an
hour. Man, is that guy knowledgeable. It will be a sad day for the bike world
when he goes to interview with Saint Peter. I learned more about my KLR in
that one hour phone conversation than I had in the last 10 years. My hat is
off to Mr. Carl in salute. Not only does he know the KLR inside and out, he
is a joy to speak with. If only we had more Elden Carl's around. I really got
a kick out of the fact that he is 67 and his wife, I think he said was 75.
Yet they still routinely ride Baja two up on his KLR. Right now he is riding
a DR650 which I think he plans to work his magic on.
I do need something from the group, if you have it. Mr. Carl told me to ask
for an article on his bike written by a Mr. Robert Morgan. I think it was
December 1999. If anyone has this article, I sure would like to get a copy.
Thank you.
Jim
