engine shroud screws

I had the pleasure of having the left hand side engine shroud come
loose and start flapping around in the wind while I was doing about
70mph last night. Upon inspection, 2 of the 3 screws/nuts that are
supposed to hold it to the radiator were missing. On the right hand
shroud 1 of the 3 screws/nuts was missing. My guess is that at the
service I had a few weeks back they removed the shouds and didn't
bother to use any Loctite when they put them back.
Anyway, I've looked at the parts diagrams on Kawa's website and I
can't make out these screws and nuts and their part numbers. I
called a local dealer and he said he couldn't see them on the
microfiche either.
So does anybody know the part numbers for these little suckers on a
2001 KLR650?

Keep your shrouds on with little black zip ties. If you replace the screws,
you will just loose them again.

Dave,
Radiator side shroud fasteners:
two 6mm speed nuts - part #92015-1758
two 6mm screws - part #92009-1480
upper 5mm screw - part #92009-1653
upper nylon washer - part #92022-1521
The part #'s are located on the radiator diagram at
the Kawi site. You can probably find these fasteners
at your local hardware store.
Check and see if the speed nuts have become wedged
between the radiator grill and the radiator itself
before you get new ones.

99% of the fasteners on the KLR are off-the-shelf metric items which are
available at a hardware store. I wouldn't bother trying to order the
original parts - it's just not worth the hassle.
Also, pick up some HondaLock 1. Or Locktite 242. Or Tite-n for bolts.
Threadlock is Good Stuff.

It may hold them. I was about 1,000 miles from the house when my right side
came off. Down by Tumbstone AZ. No Loctite to be found on a Saturday night
out there. I borrowed a screw from the other side and soon lost it also. I
think there was a little metal bar under there. Lost it also, and both
screws. Put on the zip ties, and they are still on. The only zip tie you can
see is the one in front, and no one notices it because my fork boots look so
bad.
