Motherfu**ers. If they'll steal your bike, rough looks are no defense. I am hoping you're right, and we may see it riding around the city. ANYONE in NYC, carry a lock and chain with you. If you see the bike, lock it up if you can and retreat somewhere safe to call the cops. Devon A15 "guymanbro@..." wrote:

BTW, Tumu's bike had a seriously compromised subframe- cracked crossbracing, a completely stripped upper bolt, etc.. If the thief is heavy, or rides it hard it will spring fuel leaks in 2-3 places and the subframe might fail completely (upgrade kit was next on Tumu's list I think). Keep an eye out for it near riding areas. Devon Devon Jarvis wrote:

This sucks. I'd love to see a KLR in the rally, so how about this for a plan? 1. Listers in Washington/Oregon keep an eye out for a good used KLR for da Bum. Frosty, is your bike still available? 2. Everyone on the List pitches in a couple bucks to help sponsor the purchase. If everyone gave just 2 bucks, he'd have a pretty nice scoot and some money left over for upgrades. 3. Anyone with parts to donate or sell cheap that might help in the rally, post them. 4. Bum travels to the West to meet his bike and does an intensive prep with the help of local Listers. 5. Bum realizes dream, kicks Beemer butt, thanks the List in his trophy acceptance speech. 6. We all feel good about riding a KLR and helping a Lister in need. Tumu, where do I send the check? What parts do you need? Plan B: We all go to NYC, find the perp and buy him some cement overshoes. __Arden Kysely

These are all good ideas. I'm in on any of them, whatever Tumu decides to do. And the bags of concrete are my treat, along with a free swimming lesson in the East River at 3:00am. Devon klrz4ever wrote:

Good idea! I'll pitch in some cash. And I'll keep a look out for it in the city. Who knows somebody could just be riding it around. Maybe there is some sort of KLR chop shop in the city that could be infiltrated and busted up. Or do all the cycle messengers get their parts from the dealer? on 7/16/02 12:40 PM, klrz4ever at arden_kysely@... wrote:

Yeah...helping out a racer who's down on his luck is a much better cause than subsidizing some broad-dame-Sheila's 2 year long vacation. Mark B2 A2 A3

Better yet, save the chain for the guy that's riding it now. I've heard that a swinging chain can hurt a bit. Then forget the number to 911 until some cop just happens to walk by. Then you can ask him. millerized One nice thing, there aren't a bunch of "x" models running around. Should be easy to spot, even in a city the size of NY

Just a little bit from everyone will get it done. Maybe Bierdo could even print up a "Team KLR Lista" sticker (available to all) for the event.
