carb problems?

Anyone have any ideas? I have a 97 klr650 with about 20k miles. I
have owned it for about 4 months and have had carb problems for 2
months. I have taken it apart twice now and cleaned and blown out
everything I could. The previous owner says he never had any problems
with it before. The bike starts normally using the choke and after
driving alittle bit I shut off the choke. When the bike warms up and
I come to a stop it dies. When I get it started its loaded up and
usually blows alot of black smoke till it clears out. Seems too rich,
but the piolet jet is standard for my altitude (140). Once you get up
to mediumand above speed everything is ok. After each time I cleaned
it it ran fine for about a week then started acting up again. I love
the bike but this is really bummin me out and I just cant think of
anything else. Any advise will be greatly appretiated.

It sounds like it's flooding. If it runs for a week just fine after a
cleaning, then starts to run rich, my first guess is you have a rusty or
dirty tank. Enough rust and crap eventually gets into the float valve
assembly in the valve to prevent it from properly closing when the carb bowl
is filled.
