do i really need shims for new 16t sprocket?

Post by elglaudius » Tue Jul 09, 2002 1:20 pm

Hi Guys. I went to buy a 16 Tooth front sprocket for my KLR. I don't know which brand of sprocket it is, but it is the only manufacturer who build that kind of sprocket around here. Anyhow, the parts guy there told me that I need shims between the new sprocket and the engine. He suggested a big washer. Now, I really don't know about that and I shurly never heard about that. My first guess is that the chain will not be aligned anymore and that it will wear faster. Of course, it might depend on the construction of the sprocket or if he's selling me the wrong part. What do you guys think? Bye
