Does anyone know if this has to be a Kawi part, or is it something we
could pick up at an auto parts store?

Okay, guys - the 'how long is a string' question -
I've had an opportunity to buy a KLR that has a lot of miles on the
clock having served as a city commuter bike for right on 10 years.
The original owner must have taken wonderful care of it, because its
second owner might just as well have a low miles demo - at least from
all appearances and casual inspection. The service book on the bike
has been kept scrupulously - so what might be bad with it is simply
the product of ten years and 4k per year commuting, not abuse or
inattention.
I guess I'm succumbing to the mantra about the KLR not being a Rolex.
(Well, I usually wear one, but my wife recently gave me a Seiko so I
can tell time during the several months Rolex keeps mine while
bringing it back up. Ain't nothin' so well made it can't have a
problem.)
What's going to go on this one? What do I look out for or reserve
funds for? Any takers on my leading (but, I'll bet common) question?
Thanks.

I had an A1 with 40k miles on it. The shop told me the valve seats
were getting hammered into the head far enough that there wasn't much
adjustment room left. You might be able to glean some info about this
if he has the current valve shim sizes written down.
The rectifier/regulator smoked itself at 20k miles. The stock
replacement unit was going strong at 40k.
That's it for any problems not related to normal wear/maintenance
items.
