To add insult to injury, some ranchers have become quite wealthy while enjoying preferential cash cow land leasing arrangements most people cannot qualify for. One multimillionaire rancher has been a frequent candidate for the U.S. Senate in Nevada. Don't eat beef! The big political machine is impossible to fight. In the meantime, beef prices are very low here in the east(from a sellers standpoint), and farmers have a hard time getting enough for their beef to make it. A lot of abandoned farms(not to be confused with abandoned land, it's just not farmed anymore) around here these days.
