I just received my insurence statement for my new KLR 650 and it
seems kind of high, $338 for full coverage for 6 months. Is this
reasonable? This is my first street bike so I don't know what it
should cost to insure but I have always read that the KLR was pretty
inexpensive. This new bike is going to cost me more than my truck.
BTW, I am 30, married, and have a clean driving record. Should I shop
around?

I'm amazed that you didn't. I've found companies that wanted 300+% more
than what I'm paying now. Same goes for car insurance.
The companies do NOT do a very good job of competing with each other.

I'm 28, unmarried, and my bike is about $50 per month for full coverage. I
had to get full coverage because I have a loan on it. So that's about $300
per 6 months.

I pay $88/year (about $7.00/month) for liability. I am 19/M/1
accident, deemed not my fault, no tickets.
Do any insurance companies allow you to add comp or theft without
collision? This thing is indestructible but not theft proof.

'99 KLR650 A-13
Worst zipcode in Tampa, Fl for insurance (18% higher than the surrounding
area)
100/300/100
$250 deduct comp/coll
Uninsured/underinsured
just about everything else you can put on it
31 single male in an apt in a really bad neighborhood (probably why it and
the other two bikes were stolen)
$36 a month or about $390 a year with State Farm
Btw, I ended up AFTER the deductable getting about $600 more than I paid for
the bike. Hmm.. I love State Farm! They also didn't raise my rates and the
new 2k1 R6 is actually cheaper than the '98 CBR600 I replaced with the same
coverage. Hmm...

I have Dairyland. 100/300 plus passenger, 50000 liability 25/50
uninsured MOT bodily, 250 comp 250 collision 3000 spec. equip.
Ready?
$140 per year. My A7 was about $90, so newer is higher. I'm 45,
married, clean record. When I bought the A7, I was 36.
Hope this helps..

'95 KLR, 36, married, kids, etc.
Northern Colorado. Liability only.
3 other motorcycles insured, no tickets or accidents...
$78/year
Progressive and my local insurance company (Country Companies) were within a
few bucks of eachother.
For comparison, I thought this little scooter looked kind of fun:

Progressive wanted over $2600/year for the insurance. So much for that
bright idea-

$263, just about the highest coverage available. Per year, paid in 3
installments. I'll never have to use it, but since it's required,
I'm going on a big trip, and all the "stolen" KLR's I've heard about,
I figured OK.
Progressive.

Thank you, everyone. I'm definitly going to call around. I didn't
think I was crazy, $338 for 6 months didn't seem like it fit the
statement "cheap to insure" that I so often read in KLR 650 write-
ups. I am surprised that USAA gave me such a high quote considering
that they have consistantly been the least expensive insurence I have
ever had. I guess they can't give out super deals on everything.
