Hello, i am a new member here, and own a 2002 Super Sherpa with low- low miles. I am considering upgradeing to a KLR 650 so i can do a little backroad siteseeing and a little highway ridin, maybe take my wife with me once in a while too. Any opinions out there -Sherpa verses the KlR650?( i am leaning towards the bigger bike)

A bigger displacement bike will me much nicer on the highway, with the added power, and the added weight. However, you will lose some of the dirt prowess of the sherpa when you switch to a heavier, more street oriented motorcycle. For a great overview of the klr, check out the FAQ at http://www.bigcee.com/klr650faq.html . If youre doing more street than dirt riding, or youre an experienced thunmper rider, dont hesitate to get the 650. But if youre new to heavy bikes in the dirt, be careful with the 650. Also, 2 up riding will be much more feasible on the 650 than on the 250. 250=dirt bike 650=dirt and street bike. Welcome to the board, the klr community is a friendly and helpful one, and youll like it if you stick around. See ya. A few days ago someone was looking for a used piston, if you still need it contact me off list. I found one in my parts stash, goes with a barrel that needs boring so the piston is useless to me. Kurt Grife
