The top picture here, http://klr6500.tripod.com/corbin.htm may give you a good idea of the situation. The Corbin DIPPED saddle will probably get you closer to the ground, but it *may* also cause you to sit further forward than you'd prefer, and/or "lock" you into a seating position that isn't the best for you. On the flip side of the coin, the flat saddle is great, but if anything - because of the greatly increased width, which is a VERY good thing - you may find you're actually a little bit higher up due to the way your legs are pushed more out to the sides. (This may not actually be true, but it felt that way to me when I first sat on my new Corbin.) Mark Wise men still seek Him... I too thought that it might be lower, it isn't due to the width like Mark said, it actually looks lower but feels taller. But the change in the seat was wonderful, initially the seat seem to transmit more vibrations but that stopped after a little break in period. The number of miles you can do easily double with the change in the seat. I tried some lowering links from Don Beck (he's here on the list) 3/4" and it made a huge difference to me. In control at all times now, both on and off road it was worth the loss of a little travel especially at the prices he charges, about 40 bucks. A good deal. Brad A15

will have to go back and spend some more time on them..nice..can relate to the navy pictures i was also in the navy..from 68-72.. i was wondering about the width of the seat if that did make a difference in touching the ground. i also have been kicking around the idea of just taking the stock seat and having about a inch cut off the top..can have that done for about 60 bucks..i don't take any long trips on the bike so that may work for me.. Now, don't flame me, or go crazy for mentioning Dual-Star, (or is that in another forum?! (Grin)), but they seem to have a gel seat thing that would probably serve you pretty well. Carve off some foam, add the gel thing - http://dual-star.com/KLR/klr%20650%20gel%20seat.htm - recover, and you might be all set. I have NO idea, just that I've seen it around, and it would be better, IMHO, than simply slicing foam off the already "not made for long distance" stock saddle. Wise men still seek Him... The flat seat does not feel shorter to me. If anything, it splays your legs out so that it's a little harder to reach the ground. West

I'm probably the odd one out here, but I had a dipped Corbin seat and absolutley hated it. The dip forced me to ride in one position and one position only, which was right up against the tank. If I wanted to scoot back on the saddle, I basically had to go into the stand position then plant my rear further back on the seat, and then it became work to stay there, as the dip kept wanting me to slide forward on it. I prefer the stock seat to a corbin, but thats just my opinion. Also like others, I to found that having a lower seat didn't really help a whole deal in getting my feet on the ground, because the pan of the saddle is slightly wider than the stock seat. I got some of Don B's lowering links (great improvements) .... But I paid more than $40 ... I'll be expecting a refund asap .. Dave Salem OR KLR650 Spitfire DR350 Skippy

I have a DualStar 'gel' seat and don't like it. It has a dip in it that causes my gonads to get pinched. I'll probably redo the seat next week. It does work out if I sit on the back part where it is flat. If you wish to carve off some foam on your old seat I have a KLR foam seat that you can experiment with - Free! I have used an electric carving knife to work with foam rubber in the past. George Escondido, CA
