It's normal for the valvetrain to be noisier when the motor is hot and the oil thins out. Year-round short trips counts as "extreme service", especially in the winter whne the motor never fully warms up. You should be changing the oil every couple months using the bike like this, and the filter every other oil change. You would be doing the bike a favor by taking it out once a week, or every other week, and wringing its neck for a half-hour or so on twisties and the highway. This will fully heat up the engine, drive most of the water out of the oil (which I guarantee you have due to condensation) and properly heat-cycle the rings and piston in case you haven't properly broken in the motor.
