Big Cee makes a custom KLR stick, comes with an allen head bolt to
screw into the right hand footpeg hole to securely hold the bike off
the ground.

when i went to moab, and also when i went to lapaz last year, i
carried along a custom stick (about a 10-12" length of about 1/2 by 1
1/2" lumber, made by splitting section of 2x4, then taking the one
that looked like it would not break in half). i tucked this in with
my tools, and used it every other gas stop to help lightly lube the
chain. i think i still have it in my pvc tool carrier, which i only
put on the bike for touring.

Just put Slime in ther tires - it works. You'll never have another flat
tire. $7 at Wal*Mart. I had a flat on my CT70. Put just put slime in (I
didn't even bother to patch the tube), pumped it full of air. It's still
full of air a month later.

Wrong. No doubt Slime will plug small punctures, and I'm glad it worked
for you. But I had slime in my rear IRC-GP110 when I picked up a
drywall screw, and the tear it made was just too big for the Slime to
plug it. And what an awful mess when I got the tire off at the roadside.
I vote for the 3mm or 4mm inner tubes- I bottomed hard enough to dent my
front rim, while running 16psi in the tires, and I didn't get a flat.

Slime works for some flats but not all, if you have slime in your tires,
you may already have a small flat and the the product has worked,
without you even knowing it.
I personally, don't use slime, I'd rather know when I have a flat, so I
can change over the tube.

foot pegs for klr: foot rests

I bought 3 sets of used KDX foot pegs. KDX200 pre 95, KDX200 95 and
later, and 1981 KDX400. The 95 and later pegs and the 400 pegs are
an easy fit if you use your KLR pins. The KDX pins are 10 mm in
diameter. KLR pins are 8 mm. For now I am using my KLR pins. You
could drill out your KLR mounts. KLR pins are 36.5 mm long. KDX
pins vary 37.5 to 45.5 mm. Early KDX pins are hex heads not cotter
pinned.
When trying to fit the early 200 pegs, I couldn't get the pin
through the spring and through the bracket. Too much spring
pressure. The early pegs are U shaped where they fit in the frame
bracket. With more effort or with help the pin would probably fit.
It fit without the spring. The spring fits inside the U. The later
200 pegs and the 400-450 pegs are made differently and the spring is
no problem. The later 200 pegs have a Z brace inside the peg loop.
I checked the Kaw web site and the KDX220 pegs appear to be the same
as the later 200 pegs. All KDX pegs (200,220,250,400-450) appeared
to have the same part numbers. If you check the site, pegs are
called "steps" or "foot rests".
If you are looking for metal pegs try KDX. My total cost for all
three sets found on the net was $51.
