cracked my brade pedal bracket today....

I know I should have done this BEFORE I had to ride home without a back
brake.
I got a stick caught between the brake pedal and the case while riding
through the woods, and it broke the brake pedal /rear master cylinder
bracket.
Is anyone using the dual-star billet replacement?
Is anyone using a "pedal-saver", one of those cables that runs from the
bash plate to the brake pedal end? They are supposed to prevent a stick
from jamming itself between the pedal and case, and limit the range of
travel of the pedal in case one gets in .

Devon-
I have a DS bracket on order (now if they'll actually ship it!) as that
bracket is definitely too easily broken. I looked at those lever saver
lines and honestly, they look to be a length of wire, that you wrap
around the toe of your lever and then affix (with the proper slack) to
the frame forward of the lever. Might try to make a set out of the $0.53
of wire-rope I got at the hardware store.

Thanks John, and Zack. I wired the pedal in place, and wired up a
half-assed brake saver out of safety wire, just to keep the lever in
place for the rest of the day. Riding dirt without a back brake sucks,
but I was a lot faster!
I posed the same question to the thumper list- the "proper" second life
for an old clutch or throttle cable is to become a brake saver.
If I don't have a donor, I'll find some stainless wire rope and make
one.

I did this with bicycle shifter cable on my WR200. One end has a barrel
shaped piece fixed to it, and the other end is cut to whatever length you
need. I drilled a small hole in the brake lever to fit the cable through,
the end piece will keep that end in place. Than the other end was threaded
through a hole drilled into the skid plate and wrapped back on itself I
used an aluminum cable "doodad thing" to crimp the end down to the cable. I
don't remember were I got it. Anyone know what this is called?
