sorry, tires again

I'm riding on a kenda 270 right now that has been good
for the loose crud but I have a 2100 mile road trip
next month that is all pavement. The Kenda is starting
to look lame so I think I'll throw something more road
worthy on, I have a spare stock Dunlop that I'll
probably put on the front although the tire dealer
would probably swap me something else for it. Suggestions?

I love the Kenda K270, but I slapped on a pair of Gripsters when I
did a trip to Florida in the express lane 2 years ago. They're great
for high-speed interstate action.

I commuted on the freeway with K270's last year. I got 6k miles out of the
rear (it still had legal tread-depth when I pulled it) and 10k out of the
front (same situation with the tread). They worked fine for me. I wouldn't
hesitate to take a trip with them.
My only complaint is that the 5.10 rear is a tad small.

I probably have close to 5000 on it and I think mine
is the size smaller. Seems cruel to subject knob to
all those miles )-: Commute on them and they have

I regularly ride them 200 miles at a stretch on my trips up to
Buffalo, but I think a 750 mile day at an average speed of 75mph is a
bit tough on 'em.

Now I'll have to spend $ on Trailwings or
something before my trip to Cape Breton.
BTW, would 750 miles at a stretch really be any worse than 200, if it's at
the same speed?

After taking the KLR down the left coast Dec 2000 on the Kenda
270's... glad it was over... love the 50/50 tire but not for long
distances on pavement. Still put another one on but took the Connie
last Dec.
Howsabout the Continental twinduro (TCK..?) 80 that was being raved
about last year? Any body running that and is it better than the 270
for pavement?

After taking the KLR down the left coast Dec 2000 on the Kenda
270's... glad it was over... love the 50/50 tire but not for long
distances on pavement. Still put another one on but took the Connie

Hi Dan,
I'm running a TKC80 rear on my A13. I've been very satisfied with the tire
and find it to be very stable and tractable at walking speed to 105+ MPH. I
can't comment on the 270. Never tried them.

I've got a TKC 80 on the front. It does well on pavement in my
opinion and also works for me off road in sandy washes. I am using a
K270 on the rear. The TKC 80 rear looks to have more aggressive knobs
than the Kenda.
I think Lew Waterman started his trek using the TKC 80 and wore out
the rear after 2000 miles.
