This sounds like a BMW crash-story. If this had been my KLR, the total cost of repair would have been almost under my $300 collision deductable. It probably would have been under $100 since I would have left scratched but functional parts alone. If this KLR gets used as intended for the next few years, it's going to have every single part that they replaced scratched and bent again.
>Gas Tank $424 (wow.. almost 10% of the bikes value!)
Go aftermarket for 1/2 the price.
>both rt. turn signals $92
Go aftermarket for 1/2 the price.
>front fender $84
Go aftermarket for 1/2 the price.
>rt. mirror $29
Go aftermarket for 1/3 the price.
>plastic shroud(s) $247 (including front fairing/shield)
Get OEM takeoffs along with a tank from Dual-Star for $250. Or zip-tie the old ones back on. Or go with A14 panels for $30 each and a fairing/windshield for $32/$18.
>rear brake lever $96!!
Ouch!
>front brake lever $15 >handlebars $66
You'll spend another $66 on Renthals the next time the bike falls over in a parking lot and the OEM bars bend again.
>both grips $28
Go aftermarket, get better grips for 1/3 the cost.
>rt footpeg $17
There are listers throwing these things in the trash-can. They probably toss out their OEM handlebars, too.
>muffler guard $14
Nothing a hammer won't fix.
>decals $45
Just slap a QUESTION AUTHORITY sticker on every bare panel. Much cheaper and interesting.
>6hrs @ $50 labor $300 (yea right!)
No way this took 6 hours. RM PS. I hope your insurance rates don't go up for the next 3 years. I'll bet they will.

setting up a klr650 for touring?

Hi Lynn, I've been asking myself the same question for some time now and I just happenned to come accross a similar topic on Glenn's KLR650 discussion group where one user replied the following: "My favorite touring tire is the Dunlop K491. On airhead boxers, they wear like iron, stick as well as you need, and work in the wet. Unlike Metzelers, the fronts wear evenly and don't cup out. The CW seems to favor Metzelers, but I just shred 'em. Well worth a try if you can get a 21" front. But haven't even ridden my KLR yet, and won't until yesterday's blizzard melts off, so I have no idea how they might go. But I wouldn't be surprised to go over 10K on a bike as light as the KLR." There you go... I hope I won't be starting a "discussion group" war here. Sorry if I did. jp ===== S.V.P. r pondez / please reply to : jpvalois@... __________________________________________________________ Obtenez votre adresse @... gratuite et en fran ais ! courriel.yahoo.ca
