Hi All,
Went out shopping on Saturday, and fell in love with a
'01 KLR650. It is new, only has 5 miles on it, but
the plastic is faded and has some slight scratches in
it... The dealer is offering $5K out the door, is
this a good deal? Also, he claims the fading can be
eliminated by waxing the plastic? Is this true? I'm
going to go visit him again on Tuesday, and bring some
wax with me to verify...
What are your thoughts? This will be my first bike,
am planning on using it to putz around on some local
trails and ride it to work on some (40 miles round
trip)....
Thanks,
Todd

Todd, it may be a very regional kind of thing, but at least in *my* area,
that would be a bit too much. $4500 seems to be more or less the average
from what people have said on this list, and I paid $4200 out the door.
Especially at this time of the NEW year, with 2002's being current, and
issues with the plastic... I would say that's too much.
I think I have read that the fading and scratches can be dealt with,
perhaps something like buffing with toothpaste and then trying a good wax.
I'm not sure what works best, but I think there IS a way to handle it.
Good luck, and WHATEVER you pay, it will be worth it for the absolute fun
you will get from the bike.

How in the world did the plastic get scratched with only 5 miles on the
clock? Sounds a little fishy to me. I don't know what KLRs are going for
in your market, but from what other listers have touted, seems a little on
the high side. Just my humble opinion,
