I have some questions about this tank:
1. What's the capacity?
2. Is it possible to use a locking gas cap. I *like* my locking gas cap.
3. What's a "dirt-bike style vent tube?"
4. Is a vacuum-operated petcock available? I *like* not having to fiddle
with the petcock before and after riding.
Anyone know any answers?
Cheers,
-Lujo

We apologize for not having the instructions finished in time for
shipping of the product. The chicken and the egg thing. Anyway we are
working on the "destructions" and will be e-mailing them to
interested parties and the customers who have just ordered. Simply
forward your e-mail address directly to me. Thanks for your patience.
Note: Of the two shown in the photo on our site, only ONE 3mm
stainless steel spacer is supplied with the kit (reasons outlined
below).
Also
Apparently not everybody got to read this
The lower sub-frame bolts are a bastard 27mm in length. The left one
can't be ANY longer than that or it will make regular contact with
the chain master link. This is why our upgrade has a 3mm spacer
included. This spaces our plated 10.9 grade flange bolt out properly.
At first glance the right side looks like it could make contact with
the swing arm, but we have checked it carefully through full travel.
It doesn't come close, so 30mm is fine.

We do not recommend cutting or grinding the left side bolt to length
as this causes corrosion problems at the weld nut. It can also easily
change the characteristics (strength) of the fastener if overheated.
This is and has always been an issue with Jake's un-plated
centerstand bolts. The task of repairing these low-grade hidden foot
peg weld nuts from corrosion seizure (or thread locking compound) is
painful (we've done it many times to customer owned KLRs).

#1--Mine has a usable capacity of just over 7 gallons.
#2--I don't think so.
#3--Vent tube comes out of the top of the gas cap.
#4--The stock Kawi petcock fits this tank, this is what I'm using.

I'd like to clarify a few things:
The gas tank Kris is showing is not made by Acerbis - it is an IMS
product.
It is NOT the same tank that is used on the US Marine Corps KLR.
There is one crucial difference.
You will not get the same tank by ordering from your dealer either.
If anyone has a need for the correct tank you can get it directly
from Dual Star.
Additionally:
The Marine Corps KLR radiator and fan is still susceptible to side
impact damage using this tank. We both make the same modifications to
the fan frame to help minimize the problem. This is also why we have
developed the new Dual Star RadGuard for the KLR 650. Any other
current design does not properly address the issues.
Our new RadGuard is in production now, will be shipping shortly and
will be on our web site soon.
BTW - As Dual Star is one the of major sponsors of The Ride Of The
Heart, I'm not trying to impede funding for her adventures or give
Kris a hard time, just trying to set the story straight.
