Still in my breakin period on my 2002(900mi). Still haven't got her
over 6000rpm in 5th. I read somewhere, top speed is around 105mph
but I doubt that figure. Anyone have any realworld experience to
share???? Thanks for your input.

I got my A15 to 105 indicated, with a little more to go, before I changed to
a 14t front sprocket. Probably could have gotten 110 on the clock with a
little more road. Not bad for 36hp and no attempt at streamlining. Now it
redlines at an indicated 95mph.
Who knows how fast I was really going, but a 10% error on Japanese
speedometers is not unheard of. Maybe true105 is possible, once the motor
loosens up in a few thousand miles, with the rider laying on the tank and
wearing leathers. But, why bother? A lot of other bikes will go faster for
the same money, just not in sand.

I ran mine hard once just to see what would happen. It went well over 105mph
and was still pulling when I chickened out (the Kenda 270's did NOT like it,
nevermind having a bit too much mud on them causing a serious vibration).
Other reports have it at around 118mph.

107mph on the dial, most likely not true speed . 115 steep down hill on
Mc Arthur Causeway, Miami Beach with little traffic.

The fastest I've had my 2002 was 95mph (GPS
Speedometer) don't recall the rpms, but definately not
redlined. I had power to go faster but my offramp
approached (rather quickly I might ad). I also made no
attempt to streamline so I'm sure this bike could do
110 easily if I felt like laying on the gas tank.

My speed record is 110mph indicated on my Tengai. It had room to pull
more, but I ran out of road. I had Gripsters on the bike at the time.
The fastest sustained speed I'll do on Kendas is 95; they get
squirrelly at 96.

On a long flat surface, like for instance the German Autobahn, I am
able to get my stock 2001 KLR to an indicated 105mph. Downhills are
faster, but get increasingly squirly, especially if you throw in a
couple bends in the road. Uphills are considerably slower.
Comforatble cruising speed can be around 95mph, though many cars
blast past you at those speeds. Also, oil consumption is very high
after a couple hundred miles at these speeds. I rode from western
Germany to southern France, and when I got there I was shocked to
find that the oil level was below the sight glass.
Cheers,
Erik

Some say the speedos are not right. Off by 5 to 10%
I have been clocked at 60mph and the speedo said 60mph?? Maybe i had the
right tire on the front GP 110. My KLR will run (by the speedo) 100 105 110
and the fastest 115, Depends on the time of day and the weather, And how big
the hill is.

As an sport bike rider, Thats how i get places fast
with my KLR, I place my left elbow on the gas tank forward of the gas cap,
Feet on the rear pegs and look over the Kaw. tall windshield about an inch
out of the wind stream, And hold it WFO until i am there, Have to stop and
gas up every 200. miles are so.
