Kinda reminds me of when I was in the Navy and we used to send new recruits
to the shop to get "relative bearing grease" or a bucket of "prop
wash"...

Anyway, on the subject of mufflers, I noticed a bolt head on the underneath
side of the '02 KLR muffler in the dealership and wondered what it's
purpose was. Looked to be a low point...could it be a drain?
The Harley's gone and the KLR research intensifies.

I have wondered that myself, I think there are two there however, at
first I thought maybe that was a way to remove the spark arrester,
but that dont look right either.
Speaking of the "pun" we used to always get Midshipmen riding along,
they were absolute fun at sea. Used to have them on "Mail Bouy"
watch all the time, and when we managed to capture a "Sea Bat", that
could turn into something that should be on America's Funniest
Video's, we had one dipstick that after getting hit the "First" time
with a broom, get mad because he "almost" let it get away....
needless to say all bets were off after that, I think the "second"
time he got hit with about 3 or 4 brooms, and started with the hey I
almost let it ..... then I reckon something clicked and he turned
about 12 shades of red and ran off.
People that we did'nt like we had a special arrangement with a nice
friendly Engineman Chief, when we sent them to main control for
a "BT" Punch, since we did'nt have any Boilertech's onboard.
Anyhow... Ride it like you stole it... or ummm

Yes, with a high probability of snapping off when
removed. Designed to let you periodically blow out
accumulated crud. One of mine snapped off, the others
I got out and put back with a heavy dose of
anti-sieze. i would recommend doing that ASAP.

No, it is not a drain. The two bolts are where you fit the grease
zerks to lubricate the fore and aft muffler bearings.

Checked the archives and there doesn't appear to have been a thread
on this subject! Has anyone any experience or passing knowledge re
the B Bags from Germany via Chase Harper and whether or not they
would work for a DP application on a KLR? Thanks Steve Br

Yes, drains for "carbon removal", according to the manual. They rob
you of aerodynamics and increase fuel consumtion. Take a wrench and
snap em off. What I did!
