throttle locks???
I thought after a little time and patience someone would have the
final say on a throttle lock for the KLR. Though I haven't been
through all of the "opinions", most require engineering (which is
great if it is dependable at the end) and some are stupid. A cohort
put a universal one on his and he looked like a monkey doing a
football. Any great successes out there?

I have a Universal and it is functions perfectly but is very bulky.
If I were buying one for the first time, I would do the extra work
and get the one that you have to tap the throttle housing and put in
a screw.
I haven't used my throttle lock much since I got my Throttle Rocker.
Best $10 I ever spent ont he bike.

throttle locks???
Having installed NEP's three times I would recommend the CC-3 model
of the NEP brand as it has an flat angle coming from the unit that
along with a spacer from that to the grip housing only requires a
simple sheet metal screw.. (I drill a hole then flatten the end of the
screw so it doesn't interfere with the throttle cable inards)
The NEP CC-2 on the '98 Concours,90K mi on it and doing fine.
I can't compare the other brands as I have not used them.

Got mine from Fred at Arrowhead. Works great, took about an hour to install
and adjust and I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. Did have to
come up with a very small machine screw and nut to anchor lock to throttle
housing. Only thing I needed that did not come with product. Sorry, I don't
remember exact brand or model. NEC 3? doesn't sound quite right, but I'll
bet Fred will know what it is.
Hope this helps,

Check out Coathanger Cruise Control in Photos/Modifications
section. I've been using these for twenty years. Install between
inboard end of grip and twistgrip housing. Estimated cost five cents.

Instead of drilling a hole in the throttle housing, I used a little J-B
Weld. Quick, easy, easily repaired in the field.

Rod, If you want a cheap throttle lock, which is always engaged, put an
o ring between the grip and the housing. I did this to my KLR 250 and it
works like a charm. I used the o ring from a BMW oil filter, it's flat
sided, don't know if that makes a difference though. If you want one,
contact me off list, I'll put one in the mail. Hope this helps.
Have fun & ride safe.

Matthew,
Works like a poor mans cruise control. You adjust the manually applied lock
mechanism so that it will hold the throttle at a set position yet you can
overcome the friction of the device and open or close the throttle at will.
You must make micro adjustments to the throttle due to wind, hills, passing
traffic, etc. if you want to maintain a set speed. But the throttle lock
allows you to relax your grip and rest your right hand.
Not as good an investment as my seat from Rocky Mayer, but a close second.
I use it regularly when cruising on the freeway, really helps on those long
trips.
Just my .02 worth, hope this helps,

Oh ok, Thanks
I had a make shift throttle lock after i dumped mine
in gravel a while back. Packed the space between grip
and bar with sand and rocks.
