why is my bike so-o-o-o tall?

Well guys I am now the beeming new owner of a slightly used 2000 KLR650. I purchased at the dealer today. When I got there I found that the Mileage was actually 2600 not 600. Since we were dealing on #$3800 he took another $200 off. I think I got a fair deal. The bike is in mint condition and even had a couple of extras on it. It had the clearview windshield, and some foam handgrips. I was real impressed with the handling of the bike on the way home. I ran it 75mph-79mph and the bike was not too buzzie. It tracked nicely. When I got close to home I hit some bad two lanes and some gravel and it soaked it up with ease. It is amazing what a light motorcyle is like. It is sure the oposite of the K12LT. Kind of like going from a lexus to a 15 year old pickup. Of course you have sunday shoes and work shoes right? I am looking forward to getting comfortable with this bike. Kind of had a scare. Did not know you had to pull the clutch in AND be in N to start. Other than that I am going to buy the centerstand and skid guard. Probobly get the pegs too. I have never had a bike with a chain, all shaft drive. Learning to care for a chain will not be fun. Anyway I am on the list now What do you think?

My month old Y2K also starts in neutral without pulling in the clutch handle.
