installing progressive springs (help)

My KLR got Progressive Front springs for Christams.
Does anybody has the procedure for installing the Progressive Front
Springs in the KLR650? It used to be on the web. I *think* at DSN...
My two main questions are:
- Can I use the stock spacers?
- How much fork oil do I add?
- Any other tips are welcome...
Thanks

Pat, if you have the Larry Roessler springs, I think the stock
spacers are way too long, you'll have to make some about 2.5 inches
long, I think.
If you have the regular progressives, then you can cut the stock
spacer one-half to one inch, depending. Don't strip the threads on
the fork caps when you re-install.
Oil....I measure out 400 ml and put that amount into each tube.
Works for me.
My KLR got a new roomie for Christmas. A sTrumpet Daytona 500. Hey,
how much rain is enough, anyhow, around here?

OK Pat, here is the link to the instructions at Progressive.
http://www.progressivesuspension.com/pdf/3064-002.pdf
Use one of your old spacers and cut it in half (I'm assuming that
these are Larry Whatshisnames) The new spacers need to be 1/2 the
length of the old ones. This will be explained in the directions at
the link. Just follow the directions.
My springs came with a copy of the instructions. I assumed that they
all did.
You will be very pleased with the improvement. It's one of the best
mods that you can do to the KLR.

The big KLRs tend to have their peak torque at around 5000-5500rpm,
but that is the "normal" spec bikes.
Some markets, like West Germany and Switzerland, have the bike output
_severely_ restricted by what I assume are noise standards.
I guess they don't want noisy bikes riding around causing avalanches
or something.
The peak torque of the restricted bikes are usually around 2300-3000rpm,
so I assume that someone picked a wrong rev figure somewhere along the
line. The restricted bikes do over 31ft-lb at the rated revs, so they
do similar torque peaks to the less restricted bikes, but the peak
power outputs are much much lower.
Anyone want a KLR650C1 with a max power of 24.5 PS @ 5000rpm? Blergh.
