Huge fun to ride, faily quick for a single. Almost as fast as my Transalp. I am in fact in the process of wearing down a friend of mine so that I can buy his 1997 BMW F650 which was built by Aprilia with a slightly different engine. Ed Windsor

As an Aprilia owner for the last 6 months and 8,000 miles, I'd like to answer your question. Perhaps you are correct. That "tupperware" is mostly gas tank. It is a plastic, not steel like a KLR. A guy on the Pegaso list runs an adventure touring company in Malaysia uses Pegs. He laughs at our discussions about possible body damage. He says the plastic is very thick and durable. When a bike gets scratched badly enough; he sands out the scratches and paints the bikes again. He also says he has never had punctured radiator, nor ever broke the plastic skid plate. Pretty good testimony I'd say. I hope my Tupperware never gets tested this way. Compared to a KLR? I'd say the KLR great dual sport that is marginally better off road, cheaper to purchase and maintain, better dealer network, and after market support. A great bike. The Peg is a better road machine, better handling, higher quality materials, smoother engine, and decidedly higher tech (Rotax 5 radial valve head, dual carbs, dual exhaust, Brembo brakes, inverted fork, radial tires, aluminum frame, dual headlights, center stand, etc.) It's like comparing a Subaru with a BMW. Speaking of BMW's. Most know Aprilia, until last year, manufactured the F650 in the same factory as the Pegaso. They are very similar in design. Virtual twins. But not identical. Here the BMW has EFI, high quality materials, great dealer network, and brand name recognition. But the Pegs can be purchased for thousands less , and come standard with side hard cases. Like comparing an Audi to a BMW. Dealers are discounting Pegasos pretty well right now. Aprilia has announced that they will no longer import the Pegaso to the US. They say not worry about parts and such, the Peg sells very well elsewhere and will continue to be produced. Big, expensive, dual sports don't sell well in the US. Even BMW has continually been offering financing incentives to move the F650s. Their best seller in Europe. BTW, in the UK. Aprilia sold more bikes than Kawasaki did last year. For my type of riding, mostly highway commuting, exploring Colorado Jeep trails, twisty tight canyons, weekend touring, the Pegaso could not have been a better choice.
