nklr: help with aerostitch suit

Fellow riders, I need some help. I have been in contact with Aerostitch and determined that they cannot provide a suit for me. Why? Because I'm too big. I'm 6'2' tall, but 270 lbs. came with that height. My jean size is a 46 waist and the Darien pants only go to a 44. I offered to pay substantially more for their product, but they were not interested in doing a one off. I need to know if the Aerostitch one piece Roadcrafter suit works on the KLR. Aerostitches brochure says that the Roadcrafter is cut to suit sport bikes and sport tourers, primarily. My question is, does the Roadcrafter suit work well on the KLR 650, or is it uncomfortable in places? Because of the heat here in central Texas, I was trying to stay away from leather pants. Plus, normally, you can't wear street clothes under the leather with any degree of comfort. I know chaps are an option with leather, but chaps on a KLR?! So, any input on the Roadcrafter is needed badly, because they do come in my size. Also, if anyone knows of a full suit that is as good or better than the Roadcrafter, I'd like to hear about it. Jim, I've never had the Aerostich, but other one piece suits I've had would work fine on the KLR, better than on a sportbike. Why? Cuz when you get your torso forward and knees up in the spurtbike position, it takes all the slack out of the suit from the crotch to the neck, and can be tight. The KLR doesn't use that position, and has lots of legroom, so it will work just fine.

I've been using the two piece Roadcrafter for a little over a year now, I live just a bit above you in the Green Country area of Oklahoma. The more the suit is worn, the better it will fit. It has been a very comfortable suit for me, only a few days in Summer when I would not wear it because of the heat mixed with stop and go riding. Long, high speed rides in the heat are better because the suit vents very well. I will say this though, about seven weeks ago I T-boned a deer at 55mph or so and had a very hard high-side onto the pavement. I sent the suit back to Aerostitch for repairs and they pronounced it "totaled"! I say the suit has lots of life left in it, the armors all OK, and now, the suit seems to have a little more character, with a certain sense of experience and purpose about it. It won't keep out a lot of water at this point, but I've got a few ideas brewing to deal with that. Later. rennrivers@... A15 (Rocinante)

I use my chaps on my klr they are comfortable and about all you need in southern Arkansas for cold weather in warm weather i intend to ride with the zippers loose to the knees with only the snaps holding on the bottom. i did this years ago and it was reasonably comfortable in warm weather. Have you looked into the Tour Master suit, Maybe not in the same leage as the Aero But a hell of a lot cheaper, I saw one at a local dealer. XXL and i was impressed with the suit. Way to big for me. After a long break in riding taken to focus on our children (and their expenses) I decided I could afford the time, and to some extent the money to ride again. My last bike was a Yamaha IT 175, and I knew that I needed the dirt bike experience again. I appreciate how special the KLR650 is. I have seen several adventure touring KLR 650s here in Alaska. Being a bike nut I have nearly drooled on them. But I'm not in a position to tour. I want to make day trips and explore the trails. The KLR250 has been a gem and I've had some exciting trips. I miss the way I could loft the front tire on my IT175. I believe that my 250 could pull the front end up in 1st gear if it weren't for the CV carb. I'll be improving brakes and suspension before I experiment with carbs. I'm not an moron, and know that my 250 is not a cutting edge machine. The urge to get the more horse power or change the power delivery of an engine should be a constitutional amendment. To spank a rider asking this group about jetting is rude. I wish Kawi would build a competitor for the DR400S. After a couple more seasons on my 250 I'll be moving up. But most likely not to the KLR650.
