Interesting, I've always thought of censorship as a rather profane concept. If I'm not mistaken, words convey meaning, intonation, and feeling. If "fornicating" meant the same thing as "fucking" I would have used it. If "sphincter" had the same effect as "asshole" I would have deployed the noun. I don't use words inappropriately. However, for someone in charge of a medium composed of only the written word to forbid the use of English's more colorful members, a disservice is done to all that hold the art of language in all its styles as dear. I have posted to this List numerous essays of in depth thought and motorcycle experiences. If you've read those pieces I'm sure you'll agree I pick and choose my prose for the soul purpose of conveying a idea or sensation. Judgement of my writing should be based on its whole body of work, not just one or two words. Being singled out by someone for a personal and public attack required a forceful response. I stand by my posts and my choice of words. I will not modify my use of the written word to cow tow to the Politically Correct (another absurd concept along with book burning and gun control). Individual listers may filter me at their local email client if they so choose. That is freedom. To be dictated as to what they may or may not see is to buy in to the same concepts we are currently battling with fighter jets and artillery shells a half a world away. I will continue to post and write as *I* deem fit, not as someone dictates. The operators of this List also have a choice -- excessive paternalism or open pluralism. Personally, I will not miss membership in a group where word choice is the only determining factor for acceptance if it should come to that. Russell, This list has just gone through this subject recently. You have to realize that this isn't *your* mailing list and this list isn't protected with the Constitution of US government. This is Gino's list and he sets the rules. If you can't abide by what he says then you have to find another place to fit your needs. What you feel is "colorful" might be offensive to others. This list is for all folks, young and old, and we all have to live together. I am quite familiar with the way email lists work. Over the last three years I have composed and posted over five hundred pages of originally created content for moto list posting on a dozen or more lists. Some of that work has ended up on the KRL group. You'll have to review my language posts again. I never claimed this was my list. I never proposed the list bend to my *rules*. I post and write to *my* own personal standards. If those standards in their entirety aren't acceptable to those in charge, so be it. I have never claimed this forum was protected by anything other than the intelligent, insightful, and educated decisions of it's owners. However, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, and Franklin should be a good judgmental framework for a healthy and thriving discussion doctrine. You may also want to consult the concept of basic human liberty. I fully understand the ramifications of my actions and my posts. I am quite willing to suffer those consequences if necessary. I do stick to my convictions even in the face of pressure; something which is exceedingly rare these days. Censorship is something best left to the individual consumer of information, not the controller of its distribution. I'd never be able to complete some of my more arduous motorcycle adventures if I turned tail every time things got difficult. Funny thing is, if you ride and work on bikes you swear like a sailor now and then. I have yet to meet a group of bikers that didn't use "colorful" language occasionally. Maybe you'd be kind enough to introduce me to the exception. If two words out of dozens of pages of original list content are your only judging criteria, then you are correct in your assertion of examining "getting along". I must also point out that my original post was a response to an attack by a fellow lister. Seems to me, this whole language issue would be mute if the original attack was chastised. In my book, personal attacks with or without foul language are orders of magnitude worse offenses than the sprinkling of flavorful expletives. And no, I have not been privately or publicly asked to take it off list. I responded to a public post, just as I'm responding to a public post here. I have had my say on this topic and consider the issue closed. Those in charge can prosecute the issue further if they so desire.
