Hi All, Am considering a KLR650 after a recent move to rural Idaho. I'm about 5'7" with a 31" inseam...and riding a stock KLR is pretty much out of the question. Does the link lowering kit lower the beast enough to be a feasable ride for moi? I currently ride Suzuki's (an SV650 and VX800) and am able to flat foot both bikes no problem. Bruce, I share your inseam length, but I stretch to a whopping 5'8" overall. I don't have the lowering links and get along just fine. My toes handle the stabilization chores at stop signs without complaint (boots with thick soles help some). Once in awhile in the dirt I get caught wishing for longer legs, but so far so good in 12 years of KLR ownership. I'm sure others here have the links, so I'll let them tell that side of the story. I am 5'6" with a 30" inseam. I tried the 1.5" lowering links and they were great for riding the road but I bottomed out frequetly off-road especially after launching it off of jumps. I recently got a Corbin seat with the dip in it and put the stock links back on. I went on a DS ride and never bottomed once and that was the most punishing that the bike had had. I can not touch flat footed but I like having the clearance off-road much more than being able to touch flat footed. Words of advice: If you are going to doing any single track woods trails, DON'T!!!! The KLR650 is too darn heavy when you have short legs to be riding that kind of terrain. ~Dennis~ A15 Concord, NC

Heya Bruce, The drop links are a great low price solution to improve the manners of the KLR both on, and off road. I've no challenge as height goes with the KLR but...lowering the center of gravity of the KLR even just a little, gives it a whole new attitude...a much better attitude on and off pavement. Makes it feel like a new bike in the turns..again, on and off road. There are a range of drop link sizes to choose from. 1.5, 1, or 3/4. I was bottoming alot off road with the 1.5's, but have been happy with both the 1 inch, and 3/4 inch drops. A lower shock as I understand, is the better way to go. You'll be digging alot deeper into your pockets going that route though. Because I don't like tippy-toeing on a motorcycle. As I mentioned, I live in a rural area, very nasty roads and conditions. If I don't *need* to get used to it, I don't *want* to.
