With it zipped up,it also gives good wind protection high on your neck. I got the thermostat, but I stopped using it. The on/off cycling on the one I got 10-12 yrs. ago was warm-cold-warm-cold. If it's cold enough for the electrics it doesn't get too warm for me. I suggest that you order one without and then decide if you need one-- you can always order one later. I believe that they have improved the stats since I got mine. Widders a good product,it's tough,and it packs very small. I have mine with me always-I HATE riding cold! MM, I have used for several years a Widder vest with a collar and the electronic thermostat. I find the collar to be uncomfortable - too tight a fit around the neck when trying to button up my jacket over it. I would prefer collarless. And the thermostat - it works fine but I do not think it is worth the expense and a simple on/off switch - that I ahave also used - would suit me fine.

My skinny necked, cold blooded, wife loves hers with the collar. Me and my stubby fat neck found the collar to restrict my neck movement while riding. Made it harder to look both ways at intersections and thus more dangerous. I now have a collarless Widder and like it better. But unfortunately the collarless vest has no pockets to store the cord! Buy it tight for better heat transfer. Steve G

Oh yeah, screw the thermostat. Just turn it on and off with the switch as needed. I tried the thermo and found it to be unneeded compexity.

Totally disagree. If you use your vest in moderately cold weather, you'll be turning it off and on every 10 miles, its a pain in the ass. If you're running other accessories, an electronic thermostat will keep your draw down. Rich

In my earlier post I didn't mention that, I also have a skinny neck. If my neck was any larger, I too would probably find it uncomfortable and restrictive. I don't like the old style thermostat, but I might look into the new electronic one. Yes, buy it tight. Gary in MI
