Hi Everyone, Just a quick question from a newbie. I'm wondering if a 'saddlebag support' (K99994-498) from Kawi is required to mount/use some soft bags. My bike has a SupperTrapp ISD2 (?) exhaust - and there seems to be a fairly large gap to the side panel. So - can I forget about the support? TIA. Robb: I would not forget about the support. The risk of melting a side panel is high. The Kawasaki support has not worked very well for some listers based on some posts. IMO,you would probably be better off investing in a set of racks from Happy Trails, Mac-D or Five Star. Happy Trails: http://www.happy-trail.com Mac-D: http://members.dencity.com/mac-d/index.html Five Star: Arrowhead Motorsports is the distributor http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/newproduct.html John --- Robb E B wrote:

I mount the saddlebags a little more forward for any long rides where the muffler gets real hot. Instead of through the grab handles go forward with the straps in front of them. Works just fine.

I don't use any extra support for my Chase Harper ET4000 bags and haven't melted a side panel yet. I mount the strap over the grab handle part of the rack and have a home-made heat shield over the stock exhaust that pushes the bags out a bit. My bags have a hard plastic insert that helps keep them from pressing on the side panel. I've ridden for a week in 90-100 degrees with this setup. Arden Kysely A11 "Mr. K"

I personally would not use the Kawasaki OEM unit. I do suggest you use some type of rack to keep the right bag off the side cover. If you choose not to, you will melt the cover and damage the contents of the right bag. Without question. Of course you could remove the right side cover and carry asbestos clothing only. :) --- "Robb E B"
