loud pipes save lives.

Who cares if Mr. or Mrs. John Q. Public gets upset by loud pipes. At least they'll hear me coming. They never, ever see me, and as long as their turn signal is on....well they have the RIGHT to change lanes don't they...FTW. I have a Supertrapp E.A.R. slip on with the dual cone removed from the baffle, Dyno Jet stage 2, 10 race discs and closed end cap. Bike pulls like a tractor makes good noise and runs about 20% cooler. Monster wheel stands off idle in first gear, what more could you want from a great hooligan bike!

Unless they're on a Harley. Then they just say 'look at me everyone.'

Unless you have the muffler pointed forward, they don't hear you coming. They, and everyone else, hear you going. If it were pointed forward and they could hear you coming, then there might be some truth to the 'loud pipes save lives' crap. As it is, loud pipes are just going to cause more legal restrictions on motorcycles in general. Have a nice day. Jett

Here in lies the answer. We all need to ride 4 cylinder bikes with a muffler pointed in each direction. So then all we have to worry about is the errant helicopter landing on us. Gino

Not to be contentious but, I seem to be able to clearly hear motorcycles approaching me, granted to volume increases as they pass. I also think there should be some lattitude between some of the stock Japanese bikes that sound like sewing machines (like my friends CB-1000) and the truly offensive Hardly Ablesons and Crotch rockets with aftermarket racing cans. I think a the throaty sound of a thumper is somewhat music to my ears, personally ;-) here in the Peoples Republic of Madison Loud pipes aren't any more offensive than anything else as it's "The land of the perpetually offended " Fred J.
