I've read the posts in the archives, but I missed the review in DSN on
the Pegaso. What was the verdict?
A local dealer has a 2001 Black Pegaso for $6500. Looks like a good
deal. I like the luggage options and centerstand.
I'm looking for a smoother ride than my Y2K KLR, more highway
oriented.
Trade in is a joke, anyone want to buy a Y2K KLR, lowering links, side
racks, braided front brake line, heated grips, custom widened and
padded seat, 12,000 street miles: $3300 - located in Chesapeake,
VA.

What a traitor?......Just kidding.....
The newest version of the pegaso would be worth
a test drive.........they have efi now........
Im looking forward to testing one myself.......
They are ergonimically better for street,
especially if your average size........
The DSN test review bike was not
a noticeable step ahead of the KLR
performance wise.....more like equal.
They dont have the large tank, and
get less mpg than the klr.
They're slicker.......and the rotax
broken in, with efi, and tuned properly
will likely make a worthwhile difference.
Happy Riding....

I read a review a couple of years ago, and at that time Aprilla was making
the BMW F650
the biggest difference being the Aprilla's Rotax had a 5 valve head, the
Beemer a 4 valve
I think the gear ratio's may have been slightly different, If I'm not wrong
I think the Rotax
had more low end snot and perhaps more vibration at higher speeds and
wouldn't be quite as good of a highway bike as the KLR, have you looked at
the MuZ's ? Fred J

I've heard that as well. Rotax appears to have
an interesting history, of which I know little.
I've heard they were big in the snowmobile
racing market.......Back in the 80's, when
I first heard the name they powered into
the desert enduro world doing quite well.
The design incorporates newer technological
aspects, they've got less moving parts than
the KLR, the cam chain is a belt, they have
11.5-1 compression(eg Dakar), and......
they seem to like higher revs.........

This is the twin carb model. I think he's probably trying to move the 2001
before the new bikes come in. The brochure says it has a 5.8 gal tank. If
the side bags are included at this price I may try and swing it.

I haven't found too much on the web, but I thought I read it had less low
end punch than a KLR, maybe more on the top end and smoother.
The MuZ Sport Tour looks very interesting and there is a dealer in Virginia.
I'd really like to test ride one.

Did you mention it was $6500? I have seen them cheaper than that, by
at least a thousand dollars.

Actually I've seen the BMW version for between 5200 and 5500 although I'm
not sure it's any better. I rode one two years ago and decided to buy a
Transalp instead. Thats not to say there was anything wrong with the F650,
the Transalp just felt better. The guy still has the BMW and every now and
then I think about adding it to the herd. The problem is I have seven bikes
(really nine but two are basket case motocrossers) and I really need to thin
it out a bit.
I absolutely MUST find an SR500. I sold mine three years ago and still miss
it. It's a neat bike, it reminds you of what was good about the "good old
days" without taking you back to what British singles were really like.
There is a 1971 (I think) BSA 441 Victor for sale down the street, I pass it
at least twice a day, so far good sense has prevailed.
Maybe he would trade it for my Bonneville.......
Sorry, I'm rambling.
The rain stopped
Time to ride.

The Aprilia version has the 5 valve head, has inverted forks, and in my eyes
looks better than the "Funduro". The new 650GS is very appealing, but too
expensive and the fuel injection still appears to have problems.
I don't think I'll find too much of a better price in this area on the
Pegaso (I had pronounced it wrong - it is like Pegasus). I've never seen
any Aprilia bikes on the road, although it looks like there are 3 dealers
within 200 miles of my home.
Had a '78 SR500, K&N filter, ripped out airbox, rejetted carb, supertrapp.
I loved the power band. Too bad it vibrated so much. Mine had been rebuilt
by the previous owner and was a bear to start. Screw up the drill and you'd
be there all day kicking it. Another SR500 owner could slowly, gently kick
his to life with one stroke. (this always pissed me off, but I could smoke
him (or should I say "spank"?) once it was running.
