Yep, I'm new here and I've already got a problem.
98 KLR, 3000mi., Supertrapp IDS minus 2 disks and stage 1 jetting.
Bike runs awesome, but dies after 30min or so of high speed operation. Runs
awesome again (for a while) after a few hours of cool down.
Suggestions????
Thanks in advance,
Hall

One possibility:
Possible kinked vacuum hose leading to the petcock. Try a little re-
routing to avoid turns in it or stiffen it up with stiffer hose or a
piece of duct tape.
Also possible clogged vent in gas tank. Not to worry, this is a
common KLR idiosyncrasy. Once I straightened out my vacuum hose at
about 3000 miles, it hasn't pulled this one on me since (now at
23,000).

If this happened in wet weather or on a wet surface, there is a
common fix of putting a "t" in the carb vent tube. If that booger
gets a drop of water in the bottom in its bone stock form, your
engine will die.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using automotive antifreeze in
your motorcycle. But just as you are shopping for antifreeze for your
car, you should shop for the bike. Doubt there is a recent model car on
the road today without aluminum in its head, water pump, or radiator.
So you should make sure the antifreeze is safe for aluminum. Which
means that it should be silicate free and phosphate free. And that's
exactly what the bike needs too.
I'm running Texaco's antifreeze rated to GM's DexCool specs in
everything these days. KLX650R, PC800, Toyota, etc. But not the lawn
mower as its air cooled.
