Not to put too fine a point on it but, there is general agreement among the
exercise physiology crowd that cyclists (road racers in particular) have the
best numbers (BP, HR, Vo2 max., etc.) of any sport. It only makes sense that if
a bike racer is training for hours at 80% of his maximum HR every day, his
cardiovascular efficiency will be better than an athlete who spends less time at
that threshold.
