thanks fot the help with my carb problem

About a month ago I posted a request for help for a flat spot in
accelleration on my 98 KLR. I would like to thak Kurt, Nick and the
rest of you guys that responded with sugestions. After a month of
trying every suggestion and having the carb apart 3 times, I have a
new one for you. I tried running with the gas tank open, the choke
part way on, I've checked for leaks externaly with carb cleaner, I
drilled out the pilot mix cover and reset it to 2 1/2 turns( It has
given me more lower rpm jump) I've set and reset the float level( Ive
learned to never set your level to low ) I've shimmed the needle
up .040" up. and went over all of the jets with a fine tooth comb.
After all of this work, I was putting the carb together for the
last time, and I found the culprit, a cut in the venturi slide
diaphram, a cut that was only noticable when you manipulated the
diaphram. After having sticker shock from the Kaw dealer ( $111.00
for the diaphram and slide, they won't sell the diphram seperate) I
found a diapram from another CVK carb, different diameter, same
profile ( a junk Vulcan 700 motor from my project bike), cut the same
profile out of that diphram and with some rubberized epoxy, I made a
patch for the diphram and put ir all back together. I have put around
50 miles on it since I repaired it and no problems.
So fellow Thumpers, put this one in your collective carb diagnosis
file, as one more thing to check.
Thanks again for all the help
