how to remove fly wheel

While removing the cam shafts so that the valve shims could be replaced, one of the screws that holds the upper cam chain guard fell down into the engine, I removed the left engine cover that contains the alternator, but cannot reach the screw, it should be accessable if I pull the fly wheel/magneto, but not sure how to do that, the manual shows a special tool to hold the magneto while the 19mm nut is removed, but it does not say if a puller is necessary or just how to remove the wheel, or if the nut is a left or right hand thread.. A relatively simple job jut got a lot tougher when I dropped that screw..

You'll get some very heart felt answers to this and some strong
opinions, the way I did it was with an air impact wrench, was very
quick and easy, but I would get a good torque wrench to put it back
on. There are also a bunch of methods the list has for that also.

John, for the record, to save you some aggravation in the future, you
shouldn't have to actually REMOVE the cam shafts to check / replace the
shims, just remove the four cam caps, (L&R exhaust and L&R intake.) Then you
can lift up the right ends of the cam shafts, chain and all still attached
at the left ends, and easily check and/or change the shims...

I hope you didn't think I was being a smart ass or anything - I just wanted
to make sure you knew it wasn't necessary to actually remove the shafts, so
that for the next adjustment you'll have an easier time of it.

There is a special tool to hold the magneto while you use a
special puller tool to get the magneto off the taper on the
crank, and I recommend using these.
The magneto puller does not have to be any more exotic
than a big bolt.
The magneto bolt has normal thread, turn anticlockwise
to unscrew.
Fred Hink should be able to get the tools for you.

Dear Mr. Monahan:
I would strongly suggest using WD 40. It works wonders on getting bugs off
windshields and plastic parts. Don't use it on your Tupperware, it leaves a
bit of residue and tastes a bit sour.
After using WD 40 on your seat upholstery, finish it off with a nice
application of silicon spray. I use Armor All but again, keep it away from
the Tupperware.
I always use WD 40 as a cleaner, it works on dirt, road tar and road kill.
