electrical problem: lighting fuse

My 1999 klr has blown it's 10 amp lighting fuse. I bought it used
with 2500 miles on the clock. I've looked carefully for chaffed wire
in the most obvious places. The lighting switches are not shorted.
Have not removed the tank to look for a pinch. I could benefit from
the collective experience of this group. I do have a schematic, and
given a hundred years, could puzzle it out. My eye falls on the
diodes on this electrical chart: are they ever a source of trouble?
The machine is a joy to ride. The sudden kafroot of the headlamp
seems equal parts disappointment and nostalgia for dim days spent
cleaving the darkness aboard a Triumph Speed Twin. My eyes were
better then. I've got my multimeter. Let's have light!

It's very common on the KLR. Lots of them go 'kafroot' at that fuse.
it's part of the "kafrootignughen' designed into the bike, just like
the contemporary styling and the incredibly strong front end. You
might try putting in a circuit breaker or a plug connector fuse.

It is a common occurrence and most of us just relocate it to where the sidestand
switch used to be and change it to blade type...

El Capitan,
I'm running the "Quiet Core" with the 150 main jet and the pilot has
been drilled. I don't know what size the stock jet is, but if you buy the
kit you can play around with three different jets until you are happy with
the combination. All included in the DynoJet kit from Fred at
www.Arrowhead.com. Don't forget to get a K & N Filter too. Runs verrrrry
nicely! Power increase is mighty noticeable.
