Hello,
I just picked up my new KLR yesterday and I'm super excited! I've been
browsing the webpages of owners and discovered about $1000 in mods I'd like
to make. Any advice on whether or not I should lower my KLR would be
appreciated, as a center stand is my first requirement. I'm 5'7" and its a
challenge to back up as my toes just barely touch the ground! Also, this
may be a silly question, but should I buy some kind of a lock for my bike?
I park it in the alley behind my apartment in downtown Minneapolis. Thanks
for your help.
Newbie,
Andrea

Buy a heavyduty cable or chain and lock the KLR to a unmovable object such
as a tree or street light post. Makes it harder for someone to throw the
cycle in a truck. Put a high visibility lock on the front disc rotor to
prevent someone from riding it away but be aware that you need a foolproof
system to remind you to remove the front disc lock before riding. And buy a
dowco cover to keep the bike out of sight. Keep it covered at all times so
its not noticed. Get theft insurance.

Install a Clymore mine to the bike, use a mercury trigger.

Also, purchase a trained attack dog to guard it, one that won't get all
friendly if thrown a hunk of meat or a toy. And park it in the kitchen with
a hidden wire connecting the bike to your stoves 240 outlet. Don't forget to
shut off the current before riding.

I guess it depends on the "neighborhood" but it sounds like a lock
might be a good idea. There's even ubolt or disc locks some that have
audible alarms that sound if tampered with. Also I cover over the
bike offers more protection than you might expect. Out of sight, out
of mind I suppose.

Gino, I found a link to the picture of your? KLR.
Where did you get the twin light fairing?, is it still
available and how much would it hurt my wallet.
Regards,
Chris (KLRinPI) Rea
