Thanks to everyone !!
My filter was either not designed for gravity feed or I had the fuel line at
an unfriendly angle for gravity feed. I replaced the filter with a smaller
filter for gravity feed and made sure that the line ran at a downward angle
to the carb. Rode today with an almost empty tank and the bike ran like a
charm.....All is well. By the way, after the new valve adjust the bike seems
to have much more power. I did a little playing today since the break in is
well under way (630mi). With no on/off throttle or handle bar pulling the
front tire will rise freely in first gear with just a good throttle twist
above 4k-5k rpm or so.......power is great !! Wheelies are fun and so is the
KLR, I am hooked.
I had a Valkyrie for 3 years and sold it to buy the KLR, A very smart move. A
little dirt, a little hooliganism, and uniqueness all in one user friendly
package. Great in the twisties too.

gps vs. speedo...big difference!

Your GPS is not being truthful to you. Stand still for a few minutes and
you'll see that your speed varies when it should be zero. It regularly says
I'm moving when I'm not, then refuses to show me where I'm not going. It's
still probably more accurate than most speedometers.
However, I think it is the consensus of this group that most KLR's (and DR's
and XT's) speedometers are off by about (plus) 5mph at 55. This is good when
you're bragging about the speed at which you've done shit.
I think this may have contributed to the Japanese losing the war. They were
always off a little when they calculated the speed of light, and so could
never come up with a reasonable understanding of relativity.
Congrats on the GPS. You'll love it. It'll give you the confidence of a
Christian holding four aces!
