My dealer wants $300 (including tax and parts). The service includes valve adjustment, oil and filter, and a bunch of other minor things. This seems outrageous, because I had no damn idea this bike is so expensive to maintain. These are expensive toys! David Silicon Valley [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The only thing that's expensive to maintain is the dealer's high-overhead showroom. Do your own work or take it to a reputable independent mechanic. Mark B2 A2 A3

Even more expensive when you consider that the only thing they will probably do, in spite of the list of things they told you, is the oil change. Don Detloff Fair Haven, MI A14

I think my 500 mile check up cost around $130.00. I didn't mind paying that much because they let me watch how to adjust the valves. I had it done by Diablo Kawasaki in Walnut Creek. That's maybe about 50 miles from where you are (Silcon Valley). Connal O'brien (sp?) also uses Diablo for is 80,000+ mile KLR. I think these guys are the best Kawasaki service center around the Bay Area.

And now begin the alimony payments! Drop your pants and bend over, you're about to learn the true meaning of the word "service". -- bierdo

Now work out what you earn a day, work out what parts you would need and what they will cost you. Don't include tools, manuals, you gotta get these sometime anyway. Chances are, at those prices, you could take a day off work, fix your KLR, learn something and be satisfied that the job was done right, and not be that far behind.
