front wheel bearings

Hello
I have noticed a squeal coming from my front wheel and think it's probably
the bearing and was going thru the archives to see what was said about the
procedure and ran across the paragraph below that says something about
shimming the hub? can anyone tell me what this is about and how to go about
it? Also any thoughts on the wheel bearings or replacing them would be a
help...thanks Mark
I just changed the front wheel bearings, the bearings felt good but had 1-2%
of grease left in them, changed both to Ingersol Rand sealed bearings,
cleaned and repacked the old bearings just in case, they looked good upon
cleaning. On removing the front wheel bearings I had to soak the bearing in
penetrating oil and then take a torch and lightly heat the hub to get it to
move, the manual does not show it but the distance collar comes out. I used
the old bearings and a block of wood to aid in driving the new bearings in.
I
shimmed the front hub out per Eldon's advice and makes a big difference.
Bearing are a once a season must to repack.
