no wilderness?

Hello Kevin, It is easy to say what I said. Those vast areas of which you speak are currently under attack by the American govt. The current administration is against the roadless initiative, which protects over 40 million acres of national forests from logging. I am sure you are aware of the controversy over ANWR. The list is long, and you can do more research if you are interested. Have you ever flown over Mount Hood in Oregon? Like most unprotected forests, it is a patchwork of clearcuts and single species forests in various stages of growth. This is not healthy for our land, and will never truly recover. The following is a chilling quote to illustrate what I am afraid of. ""We will not do anything that harms our economy," the president declared in a blunt defense of his recent environmental actions, including his decision not to seek lower power-plant emissions of carbon dioxide, his withdrawal of President Bill Clinton's stricter limits on arsenic in drinking water and his refusal to participate in an international agreement on climate change." We cannot take or wilderness for granted. It will be lost at the hands of our "leaders" and their friends in big business. I don't mean for this to sound apocalyptic, but it is where we are headed if the current governmental mindset prevails. I am copying this to the list, as I am interested in peoples opinions, and I feel that this subject is relevant to outdoor types. As I am new to the board, please let me know if this type of discussion is inappropriate. Take care, Geoff --- Kevin Gallagher wrote:
